B.C.’s 33,000 direct government workers kept our province functioning through the pandemic and continue to work hard every day to keep our families and communities safe and healthy. But with dramatic increases in the cost of living, these workers are falling further and further behind—some can no longer afford to live in the communities they work in or stay in the jobs they love.

BCGEU members in the public service bargaining unit have proposed a simple, common-sense solution to their employer at the bargaining table—a compensation package for public service workers that includes meaningful cost of living protection for wages. Every MLA in Victoria enjoys such protection for their wages and we think public service workers deserve it too.

The province’s negotiating team has made it clear they don’t agree—they are offering a compensation package that would essentially amount to a wage cut in the current environment of rising costs.

That is why the BCGEU public service bargaining unit initiated job action on Monday, August 15.

You can help bring the BCGEU job action to an end by letting your MLA know you support COLA protection for public service workers and asking your MLA to declare their support as well.

Will you send a letter to your MLA asking them to support a wage offer for public service workers that includes meaningful cost of living protections?
